At Restorative Pilates we are looking to improve the functionality of your body. Why is that necessary? Because we generally move far too little and not alternately, which makes your body feel stiff, tight and painful.

Every body is built to be able to walk, run, bend, jump, turn, etc. without pain. Compensation patterns arise due to injury pain and one-sided loading (= doing more or less the same thing every day). Some muscles do far too little, others do too much, resulting in you standing crooked and moving very asymmetrically. Your muscle groups then no longer work well together and you end up in a vicious circle. This causes (more) pain and a feeling that your body no longer moves well.

In the Restorative Pilates lessons you will first reprogram your body, so to speak, so that the pain can go away. We do this by means of connective tissue massages with the foam roller and balls and by adopting specific stretching postures. This is different from the regular Pilates lessons, where you start moving right away.

We recommend people with pain, stiffness or limitations to start with Restorative Pilates. The class is accessible to everyone and is actually a must! Learn how to do it differently/better.
